DESCRIPTION:The Duluth-Superior Metropolitan Interstate Council (MIC)\, located at the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission in Duluth\, has prepared a Draft Fiscal Year 2020-2023 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for the Duluth Metropolitan Area. The Draft TIP lists all transportation projects in the greater metropolitan area that are recommended by the MIC Board to receive federal transportation funds for FY 2020-2023. \nPublic comments are being taken until June 17\, 2019 on the Draft TIP and the proposed projects.  \nClick to view the Draft TIP page and document. To request a hard copy of the document\, contact James Gittemeier\, who is taking all public comments on the document (contact info below). \nThe Draft TIP\, along with all comments received\, will be considered for final approval at the MIC Board meeting on June 19\, 2019. The final version of the 2020-2023 TIP will list all transportation projects that have been planned and programmed for federal funding within the Duluth area for those four years.

DESCRIPTION:This is the second of two consultation meetings to review the federally funded projects proposed for inclusion in Sustainable Choices 2045. \nWe are particularly interested in understanding any possible environmental\, social\, and/or economic impacts of these proposed projects\, from the perspective of agencies\, groups or organizations with a mission or interest in environmental or historic preservation; and/or human services\, transportation equity and/or people with mobility challenges in our community. \nProposed Projects\nThe heart of the Plan is the list of federally-funded transportation projects proposed by the state DOTs\, counties\, cities and townships within the greater metropolitan area of Duluth and Superior\, to be implemented for the next 25 years (from 2020-2045).  It also includes projects identified as “Unfunded Needs” and “Projects for Study.” \nClick here to view  an interactive map of the proposed transportation projects. \nWhy Consultation?\nTo give agencies\, groups or organizations with interests in environmental and historic preservation\, and low-income\, minority\, aging and disabled populations a meaningful opportunity for input into the transportation needs for the Duluth-Superior area for the next 25 years. \nMeeting is open to the public.

Sustainable Choices 2045\, the newly-released draft plan by the Duluth-Superior Metropolitan Interstate Council (MIC)\, serves as a blueprint for these investments over the next 25 years.   \nIn order for area jurisdictions to obtain federal transportation funding\, the MIC\, this area’s federally-designated Metropolitan Planning Organization\, must update its Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) every five years and make it available for public review.  \nWritten comments are being taken on the Draft plan through August 30.\nTo request a printed copy of the document\, or to submit a written comment\, contact Mike Wenholz (contact info below).   \nMembers of the public are also invited and encouraged to drop in at one or both of the planned public meetings for more information and to review and comment on the document. The open house-style meetings are scheduled for Thursday\, August 8\, 2019 from 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Duluth Folk School\, 1917 W Superior St\, Duluth\, MN and Thursday\, August 22\, 2019 from 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Superior Public Library\, 1530 Tower Ave\, Superior\, WI. \nThe Draft LRTP\, along with all comments received\, will be considered for final approval at the MIC Board meeting on October 16\, 2019.
