DESCRIPTION:The Duluth-Superior Metropolitan Interstate Council (MIC)\, located at the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission in Duluth\, has prepared a Draft Fiscal Year 2019-2022 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for the Duluth Metropolitan Area. The Draft TIP lists all transportation projects in the greater metropolitan area that are recommended by the MIC Board to receive federal transportation funds for FY 2019-2022 . \nPublic comments are being taken until August 9\, 2018 on the Draft TIP and the proposed projects.  \nClick to view the Draft TIP page and document.  To request a hard copy of the document\, contact Chris Belden\, who is taking all public comments on the document (contact info below). \nThe Draft TIP\, along with all comments received\, will be considered for final approval at the MIC Board meeting on September 20\, 2018. The final version of the 2019-2022 TIP will list all transportation projects that have been planned and programmed for federal funding within the Duluth area for those four years.

DESCRIPTION:The 2017-18 Transportation Alternatives (TA) program solicitation is now open for projects in Northeast Minnesota.  Materials for the 2017-18 grant solicitation are available below. \nLetters of intent to apply are due October 31\, 2017\, and full applications are due January 12\, 2018.\nTA is a competitive federal grant program that funds projects to: \n\nEnhance active transportation systems\,\nConstruct wayside rest areas for motorists\,\nSupport transportation-related community improvements\,\nMitigate environmental harm for transportation rights-of-way\,\nPlan and implement Safe Routes to School programs\, and\nDevelop multi-modal surface transportation corridors.\n\nIn Northeast Minnesota (Aitkin\, Carlton\, Cook\, Itasca\, Koochiching\, Lake\, Pine\, and St. Louis counties)\, applicants may apply for between $100\,000 and $600\,000 to reimburse 80% of their proposed project costs; state or local funding must provide a 20% match. Awarded projects would need to be completed by 2022\, when federal funds would reimburse eligible project expenses. \nEligible applicants include local governments\, regional transportation authorities\, transit agencies\, natural resource and public land agencies\, schools and local education agencies\, tribal governments\, nonprofit entities administrating local transportation safety programs\, and other governmental entities administrating trail systems. \nGrant Materials\n\nTA Guidebook (2017-18)\nTA Outcome Objectives (2017-18)\nTA Letter of Intent Worksheet (2017-18)\nTA Letter of Intent Form (2017-18)\nTA Full Application (2017-18) – To be released November 20\, 2017\n\nRecent TA Grant Recipients\n2017 (Programmed to Receive Funds in Fiscal Year 2021) \n\nDeer River Trail:  Itasca County will receive $300\,000 in federal funding to construct a paved trail designated for non-motorized use and making several connections within the cities of Deer River and Zemple.\nGitchi-Gami State Trail – Lutsen Segment:  The Minnesota Department of Transportation will receive $600\,000 in federal funding to construct a 1.55-mile segment of the Gitchi-Gami State Trail connecting residences\, employment opportunities\, and key tourism destinations in the Lutsen community.\n\n2016 (Programmed to Receive Funds in Fiscal Year 2020) \n\nMesabi Trail – St. Louis County Road 88 to Ely:  The St. Louis and Lake Counties Regional Railroad Authority will receive $300\,000 in federal funding to construct a 3-mile-long segment of the Mesabi Trail making connection into the City of Ely.\nBrighton Beach Shared Use Path:  The City of Duluth will receive $300\,000 in federal funding to construct a non-motorized\, multi-use path through Brighton Beach Park to connect bicycle lanes on North Shore Scenic Drive with the Lakewalk as part of the development of a bicycle commuter trail the length of the City of Duluth.\nGrand Rapids Corridor Improvement Project:  The City of Grand Rapids will receive $300\,000 in federal funding to improve pedestrian and bicycle connections between the cities of Grand Rapids and Cohasset with a non-motorized trail along U.S. Highway 2/NW 4th Street.\n\n2015 (Programmed to Receive Funds in Fiscal Year 2019) \n\nHighway 61 Redesign in Grand Marais:  The City of Grand Marais will receive $600\,000 in federal funding to build continuous pedestrian and bicycle facilities\, making necessary storm water improvements\, along the Highway 61 corridor through Grand Marais.\nSt. Louis River Trail – Phase II:  The City of Scanlon will receive $300\,000 in federal funding to construct a paved\, non-motorized trail as an extension of the St. Louis River Trail through Scanlon’s community corridor\, making connections to local businesses and connecting users to Scanlon River Park.\n\nFor More Information\nIf you are interested in applying for TA funds\, please connect with ARDC Planner Russell Habermann to discuss your project idea; you may reach out via the contact information below.

DESCRIPTION:The Duluth-Superior Metropolitan Interstate Council (MIC)\, located at the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission in Duluth\, has prepared a Draft Fiscal Year 2018-2021 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for the Duluth Metropolitan Area. The Draft TIP lists all transportation projects in the greater metropolitan area that are recommended by the MIC Board to receive federal transportation funds for FY 2018-2021. \nPublic comments are being taken until August 22\, 2017 on the Draft TIP and the proposed projects. To view the Draft TIP online\, visit www.bit.ly/2021DuluthTIPdraft.  To request a hard copy of the document\, contact Chris Belden\, who is taking all public comments on the document (contact info below). \nThe Draft TIP\, along with all comments received\, will be considered for final approval at the MIC Board meeting on August 23\, 2017. The final version of the 2018-2021 TIP will list all transportation projects that have been planned and programmed for federal funding within the Duluth area for those four years.
